These are movies focused around crime stories, for those who might struggle to get through true crime because of the “true” nature, most of these are fictional stories.

Why I love this movie

If you are a fan of Fargo (the movie or the series) you’ll love this film. It’s somehow quirky and serious and you’ll love the coastal New England scenery. It’s about two sisters covering up a crime they’ve committed while uncovering secrets in their small town.

Why I love this movie

This film is not for the faint of heart. Hugh Jackman plays a dad who’s daughter and friend have been abducted. As he searches with little evidence, theories and paranoia unfold as they do in real crime mysteries. It’s a thrilling ride, the quickest 2 and half hours I’ve ever sat through.

Why I love this movie

I’ve never been sure why there wasn’t more buzz about this great movie with so many big stars (Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Channing Tatum, Catherine Zeta-Jones). It’s about a woman battling depression when her husband returns from prison for committing inside trading. She’s put on a new anti-depressant after a failed suicide attempt, and I won’t give away anything else away in plot with so many twists and turns.

Why I love this movie

A case of ‘fact is stranger than fiction’, Bernie is the true story of a beloved funeral director in a small Texas town. If you want a lighter movie centered around crime, this is equally funny and fascinating.

Why I love this movie

Body Heat is movie that looked too corny and 80’s for me to take seriously initially. But I was wrong. It’s about the power of seduction as Kathleen Turner mesmerizes William Hurt and the audience for that matter.

Why I love this movie

Another story of an abducted child, but this time the mystery revolves around the child’s return. Set in the Los Angeles suburbs in 1928, Changeling is a shocking true story.

Why I love this movie

It would be wrong to not have John Grisham adaptation on this list, and Rainmaker is by far my favorite. Matt Damon plays a young lawyer looking to get his feet wet and joins a firm of ambulance chasers. He ends up fighting against a major insurance company and biting off more than he can chew in the process.

Why I love this movie

This is the story of two private investigators in Boston looking into the case of missing girl. A great film about corruption and some great twists along the way.
